Boydle

This is an ancient Cheshire name which was probably associated with the Norman Invasion of 1066 and is possible an anglicized version from the french 'Del Bouille'. Be that as it may, the name as 'Boydell' was recorded as being from Dodlestan in the time of Edward III, and later Pulcroft also in Cheshire where they held substantial lands. It is recorded that in Circa 1400 Margaret Danves married a welshman Owen Voyl and their grandson took the name of Boydell, to preserve the inheritance. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of William Boydell. which was dated Circa 1330, Dodlestan and Grappanhall, Cheshire. during the reign of King Edward III, The Father of the Navy, 1327 - 1377.
